iWork Upgrade Breaks Daylite Merges

Like Mavericks, Apple has announced that the iWork suite—Pages, Numbers, and Keynote—is free with every qualifying new Mac. And if you’re using an older Mac, you can still purchase or upgrade the apps for $20 each. You may want to wait on that upgrade, though, if your workflow depends upon merging iWork documents with Daylite.

With iWork 5, Apple has completely changed the document format of Pages 5, Numbers 5 and Keynote 5 and they’ve removed much of the previous AppleScript support. What is particularly confusing is that you can merge a v4 (iWork 2009) document and open it in the latest apps; however, you cannot merge a document in Daylite if it was originally authored in v5.

Marketcircle is on the case. Meanwhile, the 2009 versions of the app are not erased when you upgrade, so you can continue to use them for creating and merging documents.

Update, 11/7/13: Apple will be bringing back some AppleScript support.
